A gunfight erupted on Thursday between militants and security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district.
Police said security forces started a cordon and search operation in Arwani village following information about the presence of militants there.
"When the security forces tightened the cordon around the hiding militants, they fired at the security personnel, triggering an encounter which is going on," a police officer said.
Youths gathered at the village and started pelting stones at the security forces in a bid to break the cordon. The security personnel used tear smoke to disperse the mob.-IANS
