Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbag Singh said on Saturday the Special Police Officer (SPO) who decamped with eight firearms on Friday was in touch with militants.
Singh said the police have some vital clues which establish that the SPO, who decamped with seven service rifles of his colleagues and a pistol, had contacts with militants.
The state police chief said strict disciplinary action will be taken against those police guards whose dereliction of duty had helped the SPO carry out the crime.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of a function in north Kashmir, the police chief did not rule out questioning of the legislator from whose residence the SPO decamped with the weapons.
"Anyone can be questioned if investigations demand so," he said.
