Bengaluru

29-August-2018

A month-long retrospective exhibition, coupled with a series of outreach activities, on the life and works of veteran artist S.G. Vasudev will open at the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) here on Saturday.

Curated by art critic Sadanand Menon, the retrospective "Inner Resonance: A Return to Sama" will take the viewers through his artistic journey spanning over forty years.

The Bangalore-based artist works with drawings, paintings, copper reliefs and tapestries.

He is also one of the founding members of Cholamandal's Artists' Village in Karnataka. It is a space for promotion of contemporary art and a residential work-centre for artists, that took birth in the 1950s.

He gained recognition for his signature motif of the tree of life, "Vriksha", that runs across a substantial number of his works.

His artworks have been exhibited at Triennale India, Paris Biennale, Havana Biennale, and India's National Gallery of Modern Art show in Washington, among others.

The NGMA's schedule also has a series of outreach activities lined up with the exhibition, including Carnatic music recitals, film screenings, dance events, talks, and theatre performances.

It will also include a demonstration of painting by Vasudev and an illustrated talk by noted art historian B.N. Goswamy.

The exhibition will draw to a close on September 30.
