Perur in Andhra's Khammam gets record 58 cm rainfall

Perur in Khammam district of Andhra Pradesh has recorded a rainfall of 58 centimetres in a single day, the highest in southern India in 25 years.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Perur recorded an extremely high 58.12 cm rainfall during 24 hours till 8 a.m Friday.

Khammam and other districts in north Telangana region were receiving heavy rains for last four days under the impact of low pressure area over Bay of Bengal.

Monsoon is vigorous over the region and the met department has forecast more rains during next two days.

Eturnagaram in Warangal district recorded 29 cm rainfall, Venkatapuram in Khammam district 21, Luxettipet in Adilabad district 20 cm and Siricilla and Kaleswaram, both in Karimnagar district 19 cm each.

Several places in Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam and Adilabad districts recorded above 10 cm rainfall.

According to IMD, the state has received 40 percent excess rainfall so far this monsoon. The state recorded 291.4 mm rainfall against normal of 207.9 mm. Telangana region received 63 percent excess rainfall.
