London remains an open place: Envoy

Following Wednesday's terror attack in the heart of London that killed four people, British High Commissioner to India Dominic Asquith asserted on Thursday that the British capital remains an open place.

"My message to Indians is that London remains an open place and will continue to welcome them," Asquith said in an interview to Karan Thapar on India Today TV channel.

Pointing out that around 300 languages are spoken in London, he said that it is "one of the most cosmopolitan cities" in the world.

Two members of the public -- a woman in her 40s and and a man in his 50s -- were killed when the lone attacker, who has yet not been identified, ran over pedestrians on the iconic Westminster Bridge.

The attacker, who then stabbed to death unarmed police officer Keith Palmer on the grounds of the Parliament, was later shot dead.

BBC reported on Thursday that the Islamic State terror outfit has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Asquith said that "we do not believe more attacks will take place".

"People are going around doing their business of daily life," he said. - IANS
