Chandigarh mayor finds dead lizard in mid-day meal
03-September-2015
Chandigarh Mayor Poonam Sharma got a shocker on Thursday when she found a dead lizard in the mid-day meal food which was to be served to toddlers and pregnant women at a government-run centre here.
The dead lizard was found in the food which was to be served at the Aanganwadi centre in Mauli Jagran colony of the union territory.
A spokesman of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation said that the mayor arrived at the centre after receiving a phone call regarding pathetic conditions there.
"All the children and pregnant women were found sitting in unhygienic conditions," the spokesman said.
Chandigarh has nearly 500 Aanganwadi centres out of which 30 are located in Mauli Jagran colony itself.
The mayor informed UT Administrator's Advisor Vijay Dev about the incident and the appalling conditions at the Aanganwadi centres and sought a probe into the incident and poor condition of these centres. - IANS
