Udit Raj cries foul over security withdrawal
21-January-2020
Upset over withdrawal of security cover, former MP and Congress spokesperson Udit Raj, here on Tuesday, said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had shown its anti-Dalit face again.
"The anti-Dalit face of the BJP government has been exposed again. The government has tried to endanger my life by removing the Y category security," he said in a statement.
Raj said he was provided security at a time when he was not even a member of any political party. "In 2005, the government felt that my life might be in danger and provided the security. After the 2009 review, my security was increased," he said.
"After the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, when I became MP, the BJP government didn't provide any additional security even after the scope of my work grew. Instead, there was also an attempt to reduce it," Raj said.
Raj, who joined the Congress ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, said the government first reduced his security from the Y plus to the Y category and then to the X category. "On January 20 it has been withdrawn," he said.
Stating that he remained a target for a particular section, the former MP said, "Even now, on the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), I am expressing my stand firmly. That's not acceptable to this government."
Raj claimed after he conducted a survey on his Twitter wall on the CAA and the NRC, he came into the eyes of the BJP IT cell. "And I am constantly being threatened by them," he said.IANS
