Group of 15 questions Neeraj Kumar's appt. as Delhi CoP

28-December-2012

Training their guns on Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar, a group of retired army, IAS, and IPS officials, including former army chief General V K Singh, and former CBI director C V Narashimhan, have questioned the selection and appointment of the former to the “sensitive and crucial post.”

In a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee, they have noted that “there are many serious charges of corruption and criminalization” pending against Kumar and he “does not fit the bill” to head the Delhi police force.

The memorandum noted the orders of the Delhi High Court in 2006 that directed registration of FIRs against Kumar “for fabrication of documents during course of investigation of a case and for humiliating, torturing and harassing an innocent citizen while working in CBI as joint director.”

It alleged that Kumar had “used all his power and authority to protect and shield” Abhishek Varma, “master scamster and notorious arms and hawala dealer,” from various stringent legal actions.

The memorandum also pointed out that no verification has been carried out on recent allegations that Kumar is holding 3 accounts in Swiss banks.

The signatories to the memorandum included CV Narashimhan IPS, BS Raghavan IAS, Admiral L Ramdas, SP Ambrose IAS, General VK Singh, MR Sivaraman IAS, Lt. Gen. Prakash Katoch, M.G.Devasahayam IAS, Maj. Gen. Ashok Kalyan Verma, Arun Kumar IAS, Brig V. Mahalingam, M. Raman IAS, Col. Karan Kharb, Rajivan Krishnaswamy IAS, and Col. K Maliappan. – TWL Bureau
