Four troopers injured in Jharkhand Maoist attack

Five people, including four security personnel, were injured in a Maoist attack in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, while the second phase Lok Sabha election was underway Thursday in the state, police said.

Officials said four people, including three CRPF personnel, were injured in a landmine blast triggered by the Maoist guerrillas at Jhumra hill of Bokaro district.

The Maoists detonated two landmine blasts, blowing up a jeep carrying Central reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The injured were airlifted to Ranchi for treatment.

In the other incident, the Maoists opened indiscriminate fire on a long-range patrol of the CRPF, in which one security man was injured.

Earlier Thursday morning, Maoist guerrillas blasted a railway track and a school building in Jharkhand's Bokaro district.

The Maoists destroyed a 1.5-metre long stretch of the track between Dania and Jogeshwar Bihar station of Bokaro district. This affected the running of six trains, officials said.

Officials said the services will be restored by the afternoon.

Maoist guerrillas also blasted a school building at Narayanpur village. Two landmines have been recovered in West Singhbhum district.

Polling is taking place for six Lok Sabha seats of Jharkhand, while Maoist guerrillas Thursday put up posters in Dhanbad district asking people to boycott the polls.-IANS
