Manithaneya Makkal Katchi, a party that has a strong base among Muslims in Tamil Nadu, has condemned the action of The Times of India in issuing legal notice to this website seeking compensation of Rs.100 crore for publishing an article on Malayalee journalists in Chennai.

In a letter to the editor, P C Vinoj Kumar, party president and sitting MLA, Professor M H Jawahirullah, said his party would stand by The Weekend Leader in this issue.

The following is the text of the letter:

Jawahirullah (in the foreground) says Radhika Giri’s article was objective and based on facts

“On behalf of Manithaneya Makkal Katchi we are deeply pained to hear the legal notice served on your news portal claiming 100 crore rupees.

I fully went through the story ‘Rising emotions, falling objectivity, the truth behind Mullaiperiyar coverage in Chennai’ by Radhika Giri.

The article was objective and based on facts. I did not find anything slanderous to invite a damage notice for Rs.100 crore.

The very fact that Times of India has served this notice exhibits its sick mind. A newspaper which claims legacy to a glorious past has by serving this notice to an upcoming portal exposed its narrow mindedness, envy and vengeance to put down every voice which is raised to feed the public with reality.

Manithaneya Makkal Katchi condemns the action of Times of India to stifle the voice of The Weekend Leader and assures that it would stand by the TWL team in this issue.” – TWL Bureau
