Sex determination test racket busted, eight held

Eight members of a gang involved in illegally conducting sex determination tests have been arrested at Rewari in Haryana, officials said on Saturday.
A team comprising of Gurgaon deputy civil surgeon Neelam Thapar, drug control officer Amandeep Chauhan and Gurgaon Red Cross Society's secretary Shyam Sunder conducted a raid on Friday midnight.
Those who were arrested have been identified as Naresh, Pawan, Sonu, Charan Singh, Sarita, Satbir, Bharat Ram and Rajkumar, hailing from Haryana and Rajasthan.
Sarita, a pregnant woman and her father Satbir, were arrested for Sarita's foetus sex test.
A case has been registered at Khol police station in Haryana's Rewari district, around 87 km from Gurgaon.
Charan Singh, a quack from Alwar in Rajasthan, was a school dropout, Red Cross secretary Shyam Sunder told IANS.
The team busted the gang with the help of a pregnant woman Rashmi along with witness Parambir.
When Parambir (sent by the team) went for Rashmi's foetus sex test, Sarita was also undergoing the same test.
Naresh, Pawan, Sonu and the fake doctor Charan Singh charged Rs.17,000 per test.
"We are questioning the accused," a senior police officer said.
Some equipment and medicines were also seized. - IANS
