Unsung Hero award for govt school headmaster

For his dedicated service as headmaster of a government high school in a village in Thanjavur district, M Karunanithi was presented The Weekend Leader – VIT Unsung Hero of Tamil Nadu Award at a recent function in VIT, Vellore.

Karunanithi, headmaster, Government High School, Kondraikadu, and his team of highly motivated teachers, not only produced 100 per cent results in the class ten board exams, but also ensured that their students scored very high marks.

The school has been maintaining an all-pass record for more than ten consecutive years and churning out toppers.

Their students, mostly children of illiterate parents and hailing from poor families, have gone on to pursue higher studies and become engineers, and doctors.

The Weekend Leader published the amazing story describing Karunanithi’s stellar role in shaping the children’s lives, often going beyond the call of duty, under the Unsung Heroes of Tamil Nadu series.

He appreciated his leadership skills in getting the cooperation of the teachers to give their best.

Students and faculty members of VIT Business School gave the headmaster a standing ovation, an honour that is accorded to outstanding unsung heroes.

In his address, Karunanithi said that the school gave top priority to building the character of the child and took special care to help the slow learners catch up with the other students.

He said last year 114 students appeared for class ten board exams and the school average score was 397 out of 500 marks.

This year, he said, “we want to make it 400.”

Students of VIT Business School, who listened to his address, later had a lively interactive session with him. The session was moderated by P C Vinoj Kumar, Editor, The Weekend Leader.
