A resident of Thatipur area has been booked on charges of procuring a scheduled tribe certificate through illegal means for his son, who got admission in a medical college in the reserved quota through the PMT conducted by Vyapam, a police official said on Thursday.

Thatipur area resident Sarnam Singh Sharma, who retired as a revenue official, allegedly got a scheduled tribe certificate prepared for his son Sunil, after forging documents to show that the latter was adopted by Bhind's Gohad resident Babulal Adivasi, on June 14, 1995.

Police said this enabled Sunil to get selected in the ST quota through the PMT held by the Madhya Pradesh Vyavsayik Pareeksha Mandal or Vyapam. He was admitted in a medical college in the state and was now treating people while posted in a government hospital.

Babulal, a labourer, said he was surprised to know a few days ago that his "adopted son" was now a government doctor, since he had not adopted anyone till date.

Babulal told police that Sharma was posted as a 'patwari' (revenue official) in his village and used to visit the tribal's house. Babulal denied adopting anyone.

Gwalior's additional superintendent of police, Virendra Jain, told IANS on Thursday that on Babulal's complaint, a case was registered against Sharma at Thatipur police station and investigations in the matter were on. - IANS
