New Delhi

27-May-2015

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's official website, www.pmindia.gov.in, got a new look on Wednesday with updated information about the work of the government over the past year and an interactive interface for people to share their ideas and suggestions.

The new look website was unveiled a day after the Modi government completed one year in office.

The interactive website, in bright but soothing colours and a detailed layout, focuses on initiatives of the government and the tasks it has laid for itself in the next four years.

Modi, who is social media savvy and uses technology to improve his connect with the people, has 12.6 million followers on Twitter on his handle @narendramodi, while the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has 6.22 million followers on its Twitter handle @PMOIndia.

A new website of the PMO was also unveiled soon after Modi assumed office as prime minister on May 26 last year.

The revamped website has a section to interact with the prime minister.

Under it, a visitor can share ideas, insights and thoughts about government plans and also write to the prime minister.

The revamped website's homepage has sub-heads like "Prime Minister of India - Message to the Nation", "Putting the Indian economy on a fast-track", "Towards a bright future" and "Empowering farmers for a prosperous India" and "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" that also has images of the prime minister in the background.

Each sub-head opens to a detailed account of the work done by the National Democratic Alliance government in various fields.

The homepage also features news updates on the prime minister.

The website also features tabs like "Image Gallery", "Quotes", "Speeches", "Text Speech", and gives users the option to download high-resolution images of the prime minister.

Further scrolling on the revamped website leads to sections like governance, track record, prime minister of India, past prime ministers, and also his profile.

"Dynamic, dedicated and determined, Narendra Modi arrives as a ray of hope in the lives of a billion Indians," says the site.

A drop-down menu on the front page leads to sections like news updates, prime minister's office, funds, visits, know your prime minister, media library, social media updates, interact with the prime minister, reports and e-books.

An official release said Modi shared the new look website on social networks Twitter and Facebook.

Modi in a tweet said: "The PMO's website has a new look. Do visit... http://www.pmindia.gov.in/"

The statement said the new look website was a reflection of the prime minister's "emphasis on integrating technology in governance".

"The government is working towards 'Digital India' that will benefit the lives of people," the release said.

It said the new website was "a repository" of news and information on the prime minister, his programmes and his speeches.

"People can write to the prime minister and share their thoughts and inputs. The website directs people to the MyGov platform: www.mygov.in for suggestions and inputs on governance," the release said. - IANS
