Thinlas Chorol, a social entrepreneur from Ladakh, who has provided jobs to local women in her travel company and created livelihood opportunities for people of the region through community tourism and home stays, will receive The Weekend Leader – VIT Person of the Year Award at a function to be held at VIT University, Vellore, on 11 March 2015.

The Chief Guest for the function, K Vijay Kumar, Special Security Adviser, Union Ministry of Home Affairs will present the trophy to Thinlas, who will also receive a citation and cash prize of Rs.25,000.

In a distinguished career, Vijay Kumar, a 1975 batch IPS officer, had served in the past as Director of National Police Academy in Hyderabad and Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was Chief of Special Task Force (STF) that killed the elusive forest brigand Veerappan in 2004.

An important highlight of the function will be the official launch of The Lead Star, an English annual print magazine from The Lead Star Group, which also publishes The Weekend Leader online magazine.

Dr. G Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT University will release the first issue of the magazine.
