Don't give 'political colour' to Ravidas temple razing: SC

New Delhi

19-August-2019

The Supreme Court on Monday said its order cannot be given a "political colour" by anyone while protesting against the demolition of the Guru Ravidas temple in the Tughlaqabad forest area here.

"Everything cannot be political. Our orders can't be given a political colour by anybody on earth," a bench comprising Justices Arun Mishra and M.R. Shah said.

The bench asked the Punjab, Haryana and Delhi governments to ensure that no law and order situation was created politically or otherwise during the protests over the temple demolition.

The court observed that protests by the Ravidas community had started over the demolition of the temple.

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which reports to the central government, razed the temple following an apex court order.

The court on August 9 observed that "serious breach" had been committed by the Guru Ravidas Jainti Samaroh Samiti by not vacating the forest area despite judicial orders. IANS
