Monsoon session of Parliament from July 18 to August 10

The monsoon session of Parliament will be held from July 18 to August 10, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said here on Monday.
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs chaired by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
During the session, which will have 18 working days, the government is expected to push for bills including those related to triple talaq and constitutional status for the National Commission for Other Backward Classes.
Speaking to the media after the meeting, Ananth Kumar appealed to all political parties to "constructively cooperate with the government" to make the session productive.
The Minister said that the government business would comprise several important bills including the Constitution (One Hundred and Twenty-Third Amendment) Bill, 2017; Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, 2017; Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2016; National Medical Commission Bill, 2017; Rights of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Second Amendment) Bill, 2017 for consideration and passing in both the Houses of Parliament.
The legislative business would also include passing of six Ordinances promulgated during the inter-session period before the monsoon session.
Kumar said that the election to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha would also be held during the session as the term of P.J. Kurien is ending this month. - IANS
