A woman and her 11-year-old daughter were found bludgeoned to death, likely with a cricket bat, in the bedroom of their Greater Noida house and Rs 2 lakh cash was missing. Police say the woman's 17-year-old son was seen exiting the house with a bag and is a suspect in the double murder.

Anjali Agarwal, 42, and her daughter Manikarnika, a Class 6 student, were found lying in a pool of blood in the bedroom of their house in 11th Avenue of Gaur City 2 at Greater Noida West around 11.30 p.m. on Tuesday, police said.

They had apparently been beaten with a blunt object and had head and facial injuries.

Police have recovered blood-stained clothes of the son from the bathroom and a blood-stained cricket bat from the bedroom, Ajay Kumar Sharma, SHO of Bisrakh Police Station, told IANS.

Sharma said the killer had locked the house from outside and the bat may have been the murder weapon. However, an autopsy report is awaited.

He said that CCTV footage showed that the mother and the two children were last seen entering their flat at 8 p.m. on Monday.

"The boy then left the flat alone with a bag, after changing his clothes at around 11.15 p.m. (on Monday)," Sharma said.

The boy is a Class 11 student and studied in the same school as his sister.

On Tuesday, the woman's husband Soumya Agarwal, who was away at the time of the incident, after being unable to reach her over phone called his relatives living nearby.

On finding the flat locked, the relatives informed the police.

Police said that Soumya Agarwal, a businessman, had to gone to Meerut on Monday morning on a business trip.

The businessman claimed around Rs 2 lakh in cash was missing from the home, Sharma said.

Police said they have not yet established the motive for the murder and have formed multiple teams to find the missing boy. - IANS
